You don’t need to like Gartner, but parts of their keynote at IT Symposium/Xpo are worth spreading.
AI is transforming the relationship between humans and machines. In the days, we had to learn the language of the machines, now the machines learnt our language. It’s no longer about programming (using technical artifacts), but it’s about maintaining a dialog (which we strangely call prompt engineering).
So, when we talk about AI, we are talking about a (conversational) human-machine relationship rather than about an interface to a tool. To put it more empathetically, we find ourselves in a time, where AI is shapes us instead of us shaping AI (unidirectionally). A cool example is Khanmigo, the AI-powered bot from Kahn Academy. If you want to learn about radioactivity, it can turn itself into a dialog with Marie Curie…
If you agree with the above, time are gone, the days of selecting your AI candidates using a deterministic process (you may call it evaluation) are over. Since you are hiring a new team member, you should rather interview all candidates and put them through a process you would use for human talent.
